The Inside of MAPFRE Stadium (Columbus Crew SC Home)

April 24, 2016

The Inside of MAPFRE Stadium - On Saturday (04/24/2016), I got a free ticket to watch a soccer game between Columbus Crew SC and Houston Dynamo. The free ticket was provided by Office of International Affairs - The Ohio State University. Not only a ticket for watching the game, but I also got an opportunity to explore what's inside of the MAPFRE Stadium, which is the home of Columbus Crew SC.

After I looked around at the stadium, I realized that Columbus Crew SC is the first soccer club in Major League Soccer (MLS). Columbus Crew SC was founded in 1994, 21 years ago. Also, the stadium is the first soccer-specific stadium in the US that was built in 1999.

Before directly touched the field, I thought that the field used synthetic grass like the grass on an indoor soccer field. However, MAPFRE stadium used real grass. The grass was cut using a specific method to make it has a checkerboard grass pattern. The player bench is like a sports car car-seat. It is super comfortable. I felt very relaxed when sat on this bench.

In this game, Columbus Crew SC defeated Houston Dynamo 1-0. Kai Kamara, a Sierra Leone soccer player, made a goal from a penalty kick.
